We were pleased to present Homeward Bound with a cheque for $1000 and $800 worth of grocery store gift cards (1 for each of their clients). Homeward Bound is a program of Peterborough Housing Corporation. It is a 4 year wrap around educational program for single Moms with kids. Included with the program is a fully furnished apartment, onsite daycare, Life Skills and upgrading to college level. Participants then attend college to achieve a two year diploma that will open doors to sustainable full-time employment. In 2019 we began with a cohort of 8 women and their children and currently have 6 graduates in their fields of study who have obtained career employment. Women have chosen Early Childhood Education, Plumbing, Instrumentation and Control Technician, and Paralegal/Law Clerk.

Twice, a participant from the program has won the Soroptimist “Live Your Dream Award” which has helped them very significantly in pursuing their educational goals and has been an incredible boost to their confidence. Soroptimist Peterborough has also given significant donations to Homeward Bound Peterborough on an ongoing basis. We Thank Soroptimists for their ongoing support in giving women the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty for themselves and their children”, says Maisie Watson.
