Karen Doherty has been selected as the 2020 Soroptimist of the Year. This was announced at the June 3rd business meeting.
Karen joined SIP on June 13, 2016. She served as a Director on the Board from June 2017 to July 2019. Shortly after joining SIP, Karen jumped right in and chaired the Fashion Show in 2017, which was very successful. She served on the Fashion Show 2019 committee under the chair, Julie Coleman.
Karen partnered with the local lottery and gaming association to raise funds by volunteering at the Peterborough Delta Bingo. Karen is the chair the Delta Bingo committee (2018 – present). She organizes the volunteer roster and fills in any shift when needed. Karen’s initiative regarding Delta Bingo has had a significantly positive effect on SIP’s financial situation. The funds raised through this partnership support our Dream Programs (Dream It Be It and Live Your Dream Awards). The funds also support community partnerships.
Karen has also participated in garage sales, 10 to 1 events and is always ready to make up raffle baskets for Eastern Canada Region Spring and Fall meetings etc. Karen gets involved with every fundraising event whether it’s to lead the event or wrap gift baskets. Karen is a dedicated fundraiser and we are so fortunate to have her as a member of SI Peterborough.
