Live Your Dream Education & Training Awards Program (LYD):
The Live Your Dream (LYD) Education & Training Awards Program is a Soroptimist “signature” program.
Soroptimist’s Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women assist women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospectsThere are no restrictions on the use of the funds which may be used for any financial needs that our winners have.
Four awards will be presented in the spring of 2025. The 1st place award is $4000. 2nd place award is $3000. 3rd place award is $2000. and 4th place is $1000.

Each year, more than $1.5 million is disbursed through cash awards at various levels of the organization.
Winners at the local level have the opportunity to participate in Regional and potentially Federation level judging for additional support.
Many recipients have overcome enormous obstacles including poverty, domestic violence, and drug and alcohol abuse.
The award may be used to offset any costs associated with efforts to attain higher education, such as books, childcare and transportation.

LOCAL AWARDS at FLEMING COLLEGE & TRENT UNIVERSITY
The Fleming Award will be awarded to a full-time, Fleming student who identifies as female and is enrolled in a program at the Sutherland Campus in Peterborough. The award value is $2000.00
SI Peterborough will honour all applications submitted by FEBRUARY 28th, 2025 to: sipeterborough@soroptimist.net
Applicants should have demonstrated initiative in identifying problems related to women and girls and trying to solve them and/or educating themselves so as to be able to do so in future. Applicants should also give examples of how they have overcome obstacles in their lives.
Successful applicants will provide documentation as to volunteer experience, preferably at the time of the application.

The Trent University Award is open to full-time Trent students who identify as female, and enrolled in any program. The award value is $2000.00

SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL OF PETERBOROUGH MAKING A DIFFERENCE AWARDS/HIGH SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
THESE AWARDS WILL BE PRESENTED AGAIN IN 2025
In May 2021 an allocation committee of 5 members of Soroptimist International of Peterborough (SIP),
chaired by Mary-Lynn Koekkoek, met to determine how a trust fund donated by a past member, Gail Cowling,
should be disbursed. The committee proposed that SIP donate 7 bursaries of $250 each to a graduating
student, who identifies as female, in each of Peterborough’s high school. This award will be given annually to
each graduating class.
Amount $250.00 per student at each of 7 Peterborough high schools.
CRITERIA
A graduating student with post secondary educational goals (university, college or training program). An
energetic leader whose character demonstrates integrity, passion, compassion and care within the
school and the community. The student demonstrates the characteristics through their actions and
commitment to social responsibility to improve the lives of women and girls in areas such as education, the
environment, social justice or other socially relevant areas.

OUR DREAM IT BE IT PROGRAM
Are you between 14 & 18 years of age?
Soroptimist Peterborough is proud to provide the DREAM IT, BE IT Girls’ Career Mentoring program. This program aims to support youth from 14-18 years of age with female role models, career-planning, goal-setting and fun activities to help them step onto their path to vision and achieve their dreams.
Our DREAM IT, BE IT program in Peterborough is held after school at The Downtown Youth Space in the old PCVS high school on McDonnel West of George Street. If you would like to participate or would like further information, please contact us.
